Fitspeek 49 – Jen Burns Returns!

If you’ve ever had a crappy race or workout, chances are, if you think about why things went wrong, you’ll learn a lot more and improve as an athlete more, than if things went wonderfully and you don’t give your race or workout a second thought.

Our brains are hardwired to focus on the negative experiences that we have, it’s a survival thing!

In Fitspeek 49 Zack Neufeld presents part two of Sewing Seeds of Victory From Ashes of Defeat. The people to your right are great examples of that concept.

Also in this week’s Fitspeek, we get an update from first time Ironman athlete Jen Burns. She’ll tell us about how her body is adapting to her new weightlifting routine and how the results are showing up in the swimming pool.

And a guy who used to be seen in swimming pools in Maple Ridge, Kevin Watt, makes his return to Fitspeek after a few weeks off. He jumps right into action, probing Zack Neufeld about his heartening performance at the Valley Vertikiller. Judging from the look on Zack’s face here, I’d say that the thoughts of Carl Rogers and Chris McCormack are propelling him toward a podium finish.

You can hear it all right now in rich high-definition sound by pressing play below.

And when you are ready to start planning for your next season of athletic awesomeness, whether that is the Run For Water, The Positive Spin Ride for Mental Health Awareness, or the Rattlesnake Ultra Swim, the coaches at Tri*Joy can help you. With a low client to coach ratio, we can give you the attention that the other guys can’t. E-mail kknnheinze@yahoo.com to set up an in-person consultation session to kick start your journey to the finish line!

Valley Synergy 2018

We are fortunate in the Fraser Valley to have both the weather and the geography to participate in our chosen outdoor pursuits year-round. We are also fortunate to have well-organized clubs and training groups to belong to for motivation and social connection.

We here at Fitspeek are in the process of stirring the endorphin pot by putting together Valley Synergy 2018 a podcast/meeting of the folks from all the local athletic groups including the Fraser Valley Trail Runners, Phoenix Velo Training Group, Fraser Valley Mountain Biking Association, and the Abbotsford Triathlon Club.

Each club brings with it, its own events, skills, and attitudes. Things are in the planning stage right now, so stay tuned! BTW: Thanks Leigh Ann P for the idea!

She writes, she rides, she Fitspeeks, she is Meaghan Hackinen

Unless your name is Craig Premack you’ve probably never seen more than a dozen or so sunrises while riding your bike, and doing your best to dodge owls while riding through Saskatchewan, Vancouver Island, or Finland. Come to think of it, Craig, although he has done Paris – Brest, has probably never came face to face with reindeer.

For that, and many more reasons that you will soon find out, we present thirty minutes with author and soon to be world 24 hour cycling time trial participant Meaghan Hakinin.

Fitspeek 48 also has race results from the Cultus Lake Trail races and the Athletes in Kind 5k and 10k events held in Maple Ridge.

We end off the show with some advice on how to maintain or increase your memory. As a Fitspeek listener, you are already doing a lot of the key things, I’ll give you a bit more information on the Fit Tip of The Week. Hear it all by pressing play right below this line!

And don’t forget Tri*Joy} The Spirit of Multisport can get you to the finish line of your event, whether that’s the Fraser Valley Granfondo, the Valley Vertikiller, or the Victoria 70.3 triathlon. We offer what the big guys can’t, face to face consultations and regular progress assessments are what make Tri*Joy the wise choice for your athletic path.
